NAMI Compy

1993

NAMI Compy was a single prototype built in 1991 as a further development of the ideas explored in the Debut and Compact prototypes. A. Mironov was responsible for the overall layout, A. Ponomarev served as designer, and V. Vlasov engineered the body.

Its five-seat cabin could easily be converted into a cargo compartment, and like the Compact, its ground clearance could be adjusted starting from 125 mm. In late 1992 NAMI Compy was exhibited at a show in Bologna.

The car measured 3,600 mm long, 1,550 mm wide and 1,500 mm tall on a 2,400 mm wheelbase, built as a three-door station wagon with a front-mounted engine driving the front wheels. It used the MeMZ-245 inline four-cylinder gasoline engine of 1,091 cc with 8 overhead valves, producing 53 hp (39 kW) at 5,300 to 5,500 rpm, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Front suspension was independent, spring-based, of MacPherson type and fitted with pneumatic elements; the rear used a dependent spring setup, also with pneumatic elements. Brakes were hydraulic with a vacuum booster, discs at the front and drums at the rear, with a 12-volt electrical system and 145/R13 tires.
