The Concept(One)
We started with a blank sheet of paper. The idea was to create an exceptional supercar with a new propulsion concept. Even primitive (DC) electric motors can outperform any combustion engine in almost all fields. Efficiency, extremely fast response, wide power band, compact size, regenerative breaking, high torque... Those are just some advantages of the new permanent magnet synchronous motor generation which we developed exclusively for the Concept_One.
Our unique powertain is divided into four sub-systems, each consisting of one motor, inverter and reduction gearbox. Each of those systems drives on wheel, completely independent one from the other. Sophisticated ECUs control each of those systems using the input of many precise sensors placed all over the car. This architecture allows a new approach to vehicle dynamics. We call it - All Wheel Torque Vectoring (AWTV).
Each wheel can independently accelerate or decelerate hundreds of times per second, helping to achieve the desired (driver selectable) handling. Together with the very low center of gravity, extremely high torque available almost from zero RPM and the lack of shift interruptions, the Concept_One delivers a completely new driving experience.
*More technical details will be released after the unveiling of the Concept_One at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011.
Battery system:
We have performed extensive testing on various battery technologies and chemistries. Most of the time we tested single cells. We narrowed the choice and built 5 different prototype battery packs which have been tested on different kinds of race and street conditions in our development vehicles. A lot of time and fine-tuning went into the development of the Battery Management System (BMS), thermal management, pressure management etc. We are very proud to present this piece of art. The Rimac Automobili battery module.
Propulsion system
The Concept_One is driven by four independent electric motor drive units which are divided into the re and front drive system. The front and rear system are separated units. Each of them includes two high speed, liquid cooled permanent magnet electric motors, two liquid cooled inverter units and two reduction gearboxes, united into one compact unit.
