So when Ford decided to create the Mercury Premys concept car in 1994, it was clear that they were aiming for something special.

David Turner, Ford Motor Company’s executive director of U.S. car design, described the Premys as an "uncluttered execution of a strong, competent design." The goal was to create a smooth, clean, and purposeful shape that reflected Mercury’s design language.

One of the key features of the Premys was its long wheelbase and minimal overhang. By starting with the CDW-27 platform and incorporating Mercury’s signature design elements, the team was able to create a car that was both sleek and sophisticated. The exterior was characterized by its lack of styling lines, corners, and seams, giving it a clean and uncluttered look.

According to Mr. Turner, the Premys was a glimpse into the future of Lincoln-Mercury's product designs. While the design was influenced by the global market trends, it still retained the unmistakable essence of a Mercury. This exercise in styling not only set the tone for future Mercury designs but also showcased the design team’s ability to create world-class concepts.
