Concept Car Of The Day: 2021 Webasto Demonstration Vehicle

Jul 17, 2024

At the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich, global automotive supplier Webasto showcased an impressive demonstration vehicle that highlighted the future of autonomous, intelligent, electric, and comfortable driving. The Webasto concept vehicle, displayed at the event, brought together a range of cutting-edge technologies and solutions aimed at addressing the evolving trends in the automotive industry.

The concept vehicle featured Webasto's innovative Roof Sensor Module, which integrated lidar sensors and cameras into the large panoramic roof to enable accurate surroundings mapping for autonomous driving. This technology allowed for dynamic 3D recordings of the vehicle's environment, enhancing object recognition and providing valuable information such as traffic signs and markings. To ensure optimal performance in all weather conditions, Webasto incorporated intelligent thermal management and innovative cleaning systems into the design.

Another key feature of the concept vehicle was Webasto's high-voltage heater (HVH), an electric water heating system designed for vehicles with high-voltage electrical systems. This compact and efficient device quickly and consistently heated the vehicle interior, ensuring passenger comfort while minimizing energy consumption and environmental impact.

Webasto also showcased their passenger car battery, produced in collaboration with Hyundai-Kia Motors Corporation, which will be available in long-range and basic versions starting in 2022. The company's technology plant in Schierling, Bavaria, has been producing batteries for commercial vehicles and buses since 2017, and the new battery plant in Dangjin, Korea, will further expand their manufacturing capabilities.

In addition to the concept vehicle, Webasto presented a prototype of the Webasto DC Wallbox, offering up to 22 kW of scalable charging and discharging power. Matthias Arleth, Vice Chairman of the Executive Board at Webasto, expressed pride in the company's contribution to the future of mobility, combining decades of expertise in roof and heating systems with innovative solutions for electromobility.

The Webasto demonstration vehicle at IAA Mobility 2021 was a clear indication of the company's commitment to shaping the future of transportation with advanced technologies and sustainable solutions. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Webasto remains on course for the future with its innovative approach to mobility.
