Ken Block’s Audi S1 Hoonitron is a one-of-a-kind car that was developed by Audi for the "Elektrikhana" video. The base for this unique vehicle was the legendary Audi Sport quattro S1, which brought back memories of Audi's success at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb event. Ken Block, the American drift artist, expressed his excitement about this project, stating, "This project makes a dream come true for me."
The Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron featured two electric motors, all-wheel drive, a carbon fiber chassis, and met all safety standards required by the FIA. Ken Block had the opportunity to test drive the car in Germany, where he was impressed by its performance and technology. He mentioned, "Spinning into a doughnut at 150 km/h directly from a standstill – just using my right foot – is an all-new experience for me."
The development of the S1 Hoonitron was conducted by Audi Sport at the Neckarsulm location, with Audi Design in Ingolstadt handling the styling. The chief designer, Marc Lichte, described the challenges of creating a modern, all-electric interpretation of the iconic S1 Pikes Peak in a tight timeline of just four weeks.
Ken Block and his team are working on a new video titled "Elektrikhana," which will feature the S1 Hoonitron as the protagonist. This collaboration with Audi has been special for Ken Block, who credits the brand's passion for motorsport as his inspiration for getting into rallying. He expressed his gratitude for Audi developing this car for him and his team, stating, "The Hoonitron is writing the next chapter in our history and taking our Gymkhana story into the future."
The partnership with Ken Block has motivated the team at Audi, who are excited to see the Hoonitron in action in the upcoming video. Marc Lichte mentioned that this project has provided the team with additional motivation and new inspirations for their future work. The development of the S1 Hoonitron has encouraged them to approach future projects with a more open and progressive mindset.
