In the city of the new era, the Icona NEO was a futuristic city concept designed by Icona, the Italian design house based in Shanghai. Inspired by the daily challenges of life in a busy metropolis like Shanghai, the NEO explored new possibilities in city transportation.
Similar to its sister Fuselage, the NEO was a 4-seater vehicle designed for electric power. This allowed for a more creative design, breaking away from the traditional thermic engine layout. But the NEO was not just about practicality - it combined bold styling with an asymmetric theme that featured clear lines and dynamic automotive sculpting.
Drawing inspiration from the latest architectural trends in Shanghai, where it was designed, the NEO featured sharp and contrasted lines that combined simple geometry with sensual surface transitions. Its “anti-wedge” design construction aimed to balance the car's overall lean-forward attitude, resulting in a sleek and modern look.
Inside, the NEO had a passenger-oriented layout, with rear passengers able to enjoy a wrap-around ottoman-style rear couch. The interior was designed with asymmetry in mind, optimizing space and comfort for all passengers. The technology behind this electric concept included a motor-in-wheel application, with a total of 21kw.
Developed by Icona's technical partners in Italy, the NEO was lightweight and designed for city use. With a top speed of 120 km/hour and a city driving range of 150km, the NEO was aimed at a younger generation of buyers who valued freedom and responsibility.
Founded in early 2010, Icona Shanghai was a unique design studio with a diverse team of designers from all over the world. Through partnerships with industry leaders in Italy, Icona was able to provide customers with a full range of automotive development services.
The Icona NEO was a true representation of the car of the future, combining cutting-edge design with innovative engineering technology. Presented at Auto Shanghai over the years, the NEO showcased real solutions for urban transportation in the new era.
