In a momentous development for automotive enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike, AC Cars, the UK’s oldest vehicle manufacturer, has lifted the veil on its groundbreaking AC Cobra GT Coupe. This new addition to the illustrious Cobra lineage promises to marry classic aesthetics with cutting-edge performance and technology, marking a historic evolution in the brand's storied history.
A Legacy Reimagined
The AC Cobra GT Coupe is not just a new model; it’s a bold leap into the future while honoring the rich heritage of the Cobra line. Built upon an enhanced version of the existing AC Cobra GT Roadster platform, this coupe is set to be the first official AC Cobra coupe to hit the production line.
Drawing deep inspiration from AC’s early racing triumphs, including the Monte Carlo Rally and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the AC Cobra GT Coupe integrates motorsport-derived enhancements that elevate it beyond its predecessors. The coupe’s design is a homage to the famed AC A98 coupe, a notable race car from 1964 known for its Kammtail rear that reduced drag and improved high-speed performance.
Design and Performance
The new AC Cobra GT Coupe maintains the iconic AC Cobra aesthetics while introducing a contemporary coupe silhouette. It retains the signature shoulder line of the AC Cobra GT Roadster, linking it visually to its roadster sibling while embracing a refined, aerodynamic coupe profile.
Under the hood, the AC Cobra GT Coupe boasts a formidable powertrain. The standard model will feature a robust 450bhp (456 PS) V8 engine. However, for those seeking an extreme performance experience, the limited Clubsport Edition will offer a staggering 799bhp (810 PS), delivering an unparalleled driving experience both on and off the track. This high-performance version is set to be limited to just 99 units and will be the first to be delivered to clients, starting at the end of 2025.
Engineering Excellence
AC Cars has spared no effort in ensuring that the new GT Coupe is not only visually stunning but also technologically advanced. The vehicle features an enhanced aluminium chassis and an optimised carbon-fibre body, providing exceptional rigidity and weight-saving advantages. The target kerb weight for the Clubsport Edition is set at under 1450kg, which promises agile handling and high-speed stability.
With dimensions that mirror the existing Roadster—2570mm wheelbase, 4225mm length, and 1980mm width—the coupe retains a near-perfect 50:50 weight balance and a low centre of gravity, contributing to its dynamic driving characteristics.
A New Era for AC Cars
David Conza, Chief Executive Officer of AC Cars, expressed his excitement about the new model: “The reveal of the AC Cobra GT Coupe is a proud moment for us. Combining the timeless AC Cobra design with the latest construction techniques, we’re breaking new ground. The limited Clubsport Edition will offer an incredible racing car-like experience for both road and track enthusiasts.”
This new model represents a watershed moment for AC Cars, marking the first time a Cobra will be available as a coupe directly from the factory. As the company continues to expand its operations and enhance its vehicle offerings, the AC Cobra GT Coupe stands as a testament to AC Cars' dedication to blending classic charm with modern innovation.
