Back in 1982, Ford Motor Company wowed the world with the unveiling of the Brezza, a futuristic concept car designed and built by Ford's Ghia Studio in Turin, Italy. The sleek red beauty was showcased alongside other Ghia creations at Six Flags AutoWorld, where it instantly became a standout attraction.
Named after the Italian word for "breeze," the Brezza was a two-passenger, mid-engine concept sports car that was designed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. With features like a partial belly pan, rear wheel fairings, retractable headlamps, skirted rear wheels, and a rounded nose, the Brezza boasted a low coefficient of drag that made it a true masterpiece of automotive design.
Under the hood, the Brezza was powered by a 1.6-liter CVH engine, generating 71 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 121 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm. Its compact dimensions – 157 inches long, 65 inches wide, and 48 inches high, with a wheelbase of 91 inches – made it a nimble and agile performer on the road.
Marilena Corvasce, the chief designer of the Brezza, poured her heart and soul into crafting both the exterior and interior of the car. Her attention to detail and commitment to excellence resulted in a truly remarkable vehicle that captured the imagination of all who laid eyes on it.
Joining the Brezza at its unveiling were other Ghia creations, including the AC Ghia, the Megastar, and the Probe IV. Each car showcased the cutting-edge design and innovation that Ghia Studio was known for, pushing the boundaries of automotive excellence to new heights.
As Ford Vice President - Design, Donald F. Kopka, remarked, Ghia Studio in Turin had become a key international design studio for Ford, providing the company with the creative vision and craftsmanship needed to develop groundbreaking concept cars like the Brezza.
With its handcrafted all-steel body, powerful engine, and sleek aerodynamic design, the 1982 Ford Brezza was a true testament to the spirit of innovation and creativity that drove the automotive industry forward. Its legacy continues to inspire car enthusiasts and designers alike, reminding us of the power of imagination and the thrill of pushing the boundaries of what is possible on four wheels.
