Howcette

UNITED KINGDOM

time-calendar.png 1968

The Howcette was a custom-built one-seater vehicle created by Bob Howard in 1968. Crafted with a lightweight aluminum body, it was a striking blend of motorcycle and car engineering. Originally powered by a water-cooled 500cc Velocette MAC engine, Howard later upgraded it to a 500cc Venom engine during the 1970s or 1980s. The front-end mechanics came from an early 1950s Ford Popular, giving the vehicle a unique handling experience—just one half-turn of the steering wheel would take it from lock to lock.

The Howcette stood out not only for its engineering but also for its sleek, single-seat design. It gained significant recognition, winning the coveted "Special of the Year" award at the 1978 BMF Rally. Known for its unusual combination of parts and its distinctive driving dynamics, the Howecette remains a testament to Bob Howard’s inventive spirit and mechanical skill.
