Gilges

GERMANY

time-calendar.png 1961

Heinz Gilges' car was a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and innovative engineering. After three years of dedicated effort, this vehicle featured a robust steel body and an advanced independent suspension system, enhancing both durability and ride comfort. Powered by a 600 cc Lloyd engine positioned at the rear, it drove the rear wheels through a double-joint shaft, ensuring smooth and reliable performance.

The car was designed with a focus on comfort and convenience, featuring amenities such as a radio and a windscreen washer system. Its compact dimensions included a wheelbase of 2.0 meters and a track width of 1.25 meters, contributing to its agile handling. The wheels, measuring 8 inches, were fitted with mechanical brakes, which were complemented by the car’s excellent roadholding capabilities. The low center of gravity allowed it to maintain stability at speeds of around 100 km/h.

Weighing approximately 500 kg, this vehicle combined lightness with robust engineering to offer a driving experience that balanced performance with comfort. Heinz Gilges' creation stood as a remarkable example of engineering ingenuity and attention to detail.
