Fourdral

FRANCE

time-calendar.png 1970

The Fourdral car, named after its creator Daniel Fourdral, showcases the ingenuity and craftsmanship of its builder. A skilled sheet metal worker and bodywork specialist, Fourdral spent years perfecting his vision, which resulted in two remarkable berlinetta prototypes.

In 1970, after four years of dedicated effort, Fourdral introduced the "Proto 001." This lightweight vehicle, weighing only 650 kg, was powered by a Renault 16 engine paired with a 4-speed gearbox. It could reach speeds of up to 180 km/h. What set this car apart was its entirely hand-formed aluminum bodywork, painstakingly crafted with a coachbuilder's hammer—a true testament to Fourdral’s artistry.

By 1975, Fourdral had refined his design with the release of "Proto 002." After overcoming several technical challenges, this second prototype emerged heavier at 780 kg, equipped with a more powerful Renault 16 TS engine and a 5-speed gearbox, allowing for an estimated top speed of 200 km/h. The bodywork combined polyester for the roof and hoods, while the doors, wings, and side skirts continued to be expertly hammered from aluminum.

These two prototypes encapsulate the spirit of innovation, craftsmanship, and determination that defined Fourdral’s work, earning him a unique place in the automotive world.
