The 1997 Chrysler Pronto is a benchmark achievement in automotive prophecy. Though it's like Java in that it displaces minimal space outside, it somehow manages loads of room inside. The body design was modern, with just a few retro cues, such as the tail grille opening and split front bumpers that echoed the Prowler. The high roof allowed a more upright seating position, giving the driver the same command-of-the-road seating position found in SÚVs, minivans, and later in the PT Cruiser.
And there are the upward-slanting windows and the body that's shaped to be built with tomorrow's composite plastic materials. The inside is plush with futuristic thinking, too. Designers reduced distraction with a simple, single-glance center console instrument panel. Then finished off this futuristic sedan with a 2.0-liter 132 horsepower engine.
