General Motors - Project Center prototype

time-calendar.png 1980

General Motors calls this experimental car a "high economy vehicle". Equipped with an experimental 3-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission, this vehicle has achieved a fuel economy of 86 miles per gallon at a steady 25 miles per hour. It is rated ar 60 mpg on the highway and 42 mpg in city driving, using 1981 federal test procedures. Operating comfort, performance, speed, and range are compatible with current products. GM envisions this as a comfortable commuter vehicle to replace the larger size multi-passenger vehicles now used for this purpose.
