GHIA ZAG — MULTI-PURPOSE LEISURE VEHICLE
With a goal of reducing package size to a minimum, Ford Motor Company's Ghia Studio in Turin, Italy, has designed, developed and constructed the Ghia Zag. Tailored to anticipated driving conditions of the 21st century, the Zag is one of two package-efficient vehicles intended as the logical alternative to conventional types of transportation.
According to Filippo Sapino, Ghia’s managing director, the common, modular configuration of Zag and the Ghia Zig could be shared by sports coupes, sedans, pick-ups, and van/delivery trucks to form an entire family of exciting, fun to drive and practical products.
The micro-sized, ultra-light zag was equipped with a Fiesta engine when it made its world debut at the 1990 Geneva International Motor Show. It since has been fitted with an experimental two-stroke Orbital engine. The extremely compact engine produces about 80 horsepower and gives Zag an excellent horsepower to weight ratio.
Zag is built on an 85-inch wheelbase and is equipped with full-size alloy wheels fitted with low-profile tires. Exceptionally compact overall dimensions have been achieved using short front and rear overhangs.
