Ford F-150 Scuba SuperCrew: Uncharted Waters

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 2, 1999 – The Ford Scuba SuperCrew concept is a self-contained sport truck that can deliver a four-person diving team to uncharted waters in comfort and style. Based on the Ford F-Series -– the number-one-selling full-size pick for the past 22 years – and the new SuperCrew four-door variant, the Scuba SuperCrew concept has been outfitted with all of the necessary water adventure gear. With more than 50 years of development and product expertise behind it, the Ford F-150 is trusted for its strength, durability and flexibility – yet continuously innovating and bringing new ideas to the market. The Scuba SuperCrew builds on the F-150’s popularity among both work and personal-use customers. With multiple engine, drivetrain, cab style and pickup box variations, customers can create a virtually unique truck tailored to their work or leisure requirements. The latest innovation is the all-new four-door SuperCrew, which offers SUV-like passenger room combined with pickup truck utility. "The Scuba SuperCrew is the ultimate underwater adventure vehicle," says J Mays, Ford Motor Company vice president of Design. "It’s just another example of how our versatile truck line-up can be personally customized to take on any kind of outdoor activity." The F-150 Scuba SuperCrew features 17-by-8.5-inch TSW Tracker wheels wrapped in 33/12.5 R17BF Goodrich tires that have been specially designed for maximum wet surface performance. Integrated running boards and step pads – made of marine grade rubber along with an unique integrated grille mounted brush bar – are designed to withstand constant exposure to harsh sea water. Lighting the path through remote areas are high performance CATZ headlamps. The black and yellow exterior paint theme is carried through to the weather-resistant neoprene interior. Scuba SuperCrew is powered by the F-150’s TritonÔ 4.6-liter V-8 engine, offering 220 horsepower and 290 ft.-lbs. of torque. The F-150 Scuba SuperCrew comes complete with all of the necessary gear for diving or deep sea fishing – including an on-board compressor, inflatable boat, two-level storage bed, pull out drawer for tanks, dive gear and wetsuits, a storage and drying rack and ice-box.
