The Concept Aerostar you see on display is an idea vehicle which has undergone extensive design development and testing. Our goal was to produce a revolutionary vehicle with all the features you would expect in a state-of-the-art people and cargo carrier:

- design superiority
- versatility
- fuel efficiency
- unsurpassed handling, stability and maneuverability
- garageability

In the near future, Ford Motor Company will introduce a vehicle very similar to the one presented here. To better acquaint you with the Aerostar Concept, here are some of the design and engineering features it will incorporate:
Most aerodynamic profile available in a compact people/ cargo carrier

- low .39 drag coefficient
- "aircraft style" doors with concealed drip moldings

More engine/transmission choices

- 4-cylinder or V-6 power
- turbocharged diesel
- 4-speed, 5-speed overdrive or Automatic Overdrive transmission

More interior flexibility

- seats up to seven adults
- variety of seating arrangements including a fold-down seat/bed option
- "quick release" rear bench seats—easily lifted out for additional cargo room
- 142 cu. ft. total available cargo space
- payloads up to 2,000 pounds
- large, flat load floor with no step down
- 4' wheelhouse spacing
- easy access to rear compartment from front seats
- driver "command" seating and large glass area

More comfort, convenience and electronic features

- electronic instrument cluster
- EEC-IV computerized engine control system
- electronic fuel injection
- Tripminder computer
- "Omnisound" premium sound system

Ride and handling capability

- Ford-tough chassis combined with four-corner coil-spring suspension
- trailer towing capacity up to 5,000 pounds
- variable ratio rack and pinion steering
- tight turning diameter—a foot better than Ford Tempo
