Chrysler - Pacifica Concept [2]

time-calendar.png 2002

DETROIT, Jan. 6 -- Chrysler brand has earned a solid reputation for creating new segments and offering innovative, clever packaging solutions in existing ones. In 1983, Chrysler introduced the minivan formula which forever changed America's mode of family transportation.

Cab-forward design was revealed in 1992 which gave the Chrysler Concorde the roomiest interior in the large car segment. In 1996, Chrysler re-ignited the country's passion for the convertible with Sebring, and just last summer became the nation's best- selling drop-top. In 2001, Chrysler unveiled an affordable, head-turning personal transportation package called PT Cruiser. Chrysler, the American brand known for innovative engineering and passionate break-through design, is once again redefining personal and family transportation and separating itself from the pack with the introduction of the all-new 2002 Chrysler Pacifica concept vehicle. "Chrysler Pacifica is a new interpretation of a premium six-passenger vehicle," said Tom Marinelli, Vice President Chrysler/Jeep(R) Global Brand Center. "

In addition to breakthrough design, Chrysler Pacifica is uniquely packaged to offer three rows of seats on a wide track with a low center of gravity to give it car-like handling. "Chrysler Pacifica will be to the $25,000-plus market what PT Cruiser is to the $25,000-minus market -- while PT Cruiser is too cool to classify, Chrysler Pacifica is simply cool and classy," continued Marinelli. "Chrysler Pacifica is a great addition to our diverse portfolio of Chrysler brand minivans, sedans, coupes and convertibles." In terms of proportions, features and versatility, Chrysler Pacifica offers spacious, first-class accommodations for both front and rear passengers, making long-distance touring a pleasure. Chrysler Pacifica is long and wide but retains a high level of car-like handling, performance and operating efficiency. Chrysler Pacifica is one of the most comprehensively-equipped vehicles for both short and long distance travel.

Chrysler Pacifica comes loaded with features including three rows of seating and side curtain air bags for all three rows. Other features include heated first and second row seats, dual power center consoles for first and second row seats, power adjustable pedals, tire pressure monitoring system, integrated in-dash navigation system, hands- free cellular phone, rear audio/DVD entertainment center, and a premium sound system.

In terms of performance and handling, Chrysler Pacifica concept comes with a 3.5-liter, 24-valve V6 engine with 250 horsepower, and an all-wheel-drive configuration. "Chrysler Pacifica is distinctly American and distinctly Chrysler," said Marinelli. "Chrysler Pacifica is all about the journey, not the destination." With the introduction of the 2004 Crossfire in Los Angeles last week and now the reveal of the 2002 Pacifica concept vehicle, the Chrysler brand continues to gain momentum.

Chrysler bran, sales have increased 270 percent since 1991 (from 130,000 to 484,000), more than any other American automotive brand. In addition, Chrysler has nearly tripled its market share (from 1.0 percent to 2.7 percent) in the same time period. Finally, Chrysler has moved to seventh place from 17th place in just the past four years, by far the most dramatic improvement of any other brand.
