The Isuzu Coa-II, originally known as the Isuzu COA-II, was a concept car shown at the 1985 Tokyo Motor Show. It was a compact, mid-engined car with permanent four-wheel drive, powered by a 4-cylinder, in-line, DOHC engine offered in 1.5-litre and 2-litre displacements.
The Coa-II followed an earlier Coa concept, retaining only the opening central roof section from its predecessor. Its bodywork was entirely new and independently styled, combining an aerodynamic shape with a compact footprint, and featured side-mounted air intakes for engine cooling. The cabin was equipped with an extensive array of electronic information and entertainment systems.
At the same show, Isuzu also displayed the Aska Ceramic, a technology demonstrator based on the mid-size Aska range, which shared its engineering with General Motors' J-Car models and the Opel Ascona. The Aska Ceramic used ceramic materials for engine components such as pistons, valves, camshafts and turbocharger vanes, aimed at reducing weight and improving heat resistance.
