Next Evolution of NSX Concept revealed at 2013 North American International Auto Show
First look at possible NSX interior design concept
A new NSX Concept that showcases the evolution of the next-generation supercar’s styling and design, including a first look at the possible direction for its interior design was unveiled today by American Honda on their Acura stand.
The design stays remarkably true to the original concept styling, maintaining its low and wide stance with the dynamic and alluring proportions that are highlighted by clean, modern and simple surfacing, and edgy details that communicate supercar attitude and a high-tech feel.
The new NSX Concept offers a glimpse at one potential direction for the next-generation NSX’s interior design. The interior package boasts outstanding visibility, a strong driving position, and an intuitive “Simple Sports Interface” that minimises interior clutter, allowing the driver to focus on the driving experience. Consistent with the spirit of the original NSX, Honda’s designers have strived to deliver synergy between man and machine.
With the aim of delivering a new sports car experience that combines supercar dynamic capabilities with advanced environmental performance, the NSX will be powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injected V-6 engine mated to Honda’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system.
As previously announced, the new NSX is being developed by a global R&D team led by designers and engineers at Honda R&D Americas, Inc. located in Los Angeles, California, and Raymond, Ohio. The new NSX will also be manufactured at a new production facility in central Ohio.
The new NSX Concept will be displayed on the Honda stand at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March.
NSX Concept
The NSX Concept is a super sports model offering new value to the customer. Together with the next-generation direct-injected VTEC V6 engine mounted on a lightweight vehicle body in a mid-ship layout, the NSX Concept features a highly-efficient and high-output SPORT HYBRID SH-AWD® (Super Handling - All Wheel Drive™) hybrid system, which realizes both outstanding driving performance and fuel economy. The exterior design was further advanced for the new NSX Concept, by adopting dynamic styling that is clean, modern, low and wide which indicates the vehicle's high performance potential. The interior design, developed under the concept of a "Human Support Cockpit," offers excellent visibility, an exotic driving position and a cockpit equipped with an intuitive interface which enable the driver to focus on driving.
The SPORT HYBRID SH-AWD® is a hybrid system which features an electric all-wheel drive system that combines the engine with a newly-developed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with a built-in high efficiency motor, and two electric motors that drive both front wheels independently. Honda's original torque control system enables independent control of torque distribution to the front wheels to generate the torque necessary to realize an innovative "on-the-rails" feeling during cornering without relying on engine output. This system not only realizes excellent environmental performance and fuel economy, but enables the driver to enjoy dynamic acceleration possible only with a super sports model and to experience the joy of driving based on the idea of "the synergy between man and machine."
