Audi - Q7 V12 TDI Coastline

time-calendar.png 2008

New standards in diesel technology

Audi has once again demonstrated its “Vorsprung durch Technik”: as the highlight of the Detroit Motor Show 2007, the brand presented a tremendously powerful V12 TDI engine in the Audi Q7. The six-litre Audi Q7 V12 TDI delivers 368 kW (500 bhp) of power, plus a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. That makes this power plant the crowning glory of a range of engines boasting impressive dynamism, power and efficiency.

Tremendously powerful looks

Athleticism in its purest form

The Audi Q7 V12 TDI has a visually impressive appearance. The high flanks, the dynamic line, the powerful shoulder section and the coupé-style roofline give the vehicle a markedly muscular and at the same time elegant character. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI also differs from the standard production model of the Q7 in other design details.

Exterior design highlights

The Audi Q7 V12 TDI achieves its decidedly athletic looks by means of some very special design elements: the underbody panels at the front and rear of the vehicle painted in a contrasting colour, plus a chrome-plated single-frame radiator grille, which is positioned almost vertically, creating a particularly challenging effect. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI is also equipped with striking wide headlights with visible light tubes.

Innovation und luxury

Emphatically sporty – right down to the smallest detail

The sporty and elegant styling of the Audi Q7 V12 TDI is carried over into the interior. The interior and in particular the cockpit offer lots of space, innovative equipment and user-friendly controls.

Interior and equipment highlights

The Audi Q7 V12 TDI, with its wheelbase of 3,002 mm, offers a high degree of spatial comfort. There is room for up to seven people on three rows of seats.

With leather-covered seats and carbon-fibre trim panels, the generously proportioned interior of the performance SUV appears luxurious and sporty at the same time.

The driver information system, the multifunction steering wheel and the cruise control system deliver exceptional driving comfort and convenience. Innovative assistance systems such as the radar-based lane-change assistant Audi side assist and the Audi parking system advanced with rear-view camera round off the particularly high-quality equipment package of the Audi Q7 V12 TDI.

A power plant with unique strenghts

A milestone in the diesel segment

The V12 TDI engine in the Audi Q7 is a milestone in the development of the TDI. This engine delivers 368 kW (500 bhp), and in many respects illustrates the leading technological potential of the Audi brand when it comes to diesel engines. The V12 TDI engine combines to a particular degree the qualities that are characteristic of all Audi diesels: dynamism, efficiency and economy.

Superb performance

The tremendously powerful turbocharged twelve-cylinder diesel engine delivers 368 kW (500 bhp) and 1,000 Nm of torque over an engine speed range between 1,750 rpm and 3,000 rpm. This engine, equipped with two turbochargers, takes the Audi Q7 from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds.

Innovative injection technology

More power output with lower fuel consumption – that also applies to the Audi Q7 V12 TDI. The 6-litre diesel engine uses particularly innovative injection technology. The two high-pressure pumps of the common-rail system generate considerably higher pressure than before – up to 2,000 bar. This extra pressure enables even more efficient combustion, and hence more power output along with simultaneously reduced fuel consumption.

A trendsetter in terms of efficiency and cleanliness

The Audi Q7 V12 TDI already meets emission standard 5, which will probably come into force from mid-2010. Thanks to Bluetec technology, a new type of exhaust emission control, as well as controlled and cooled exhaust gas recirculation, the V12 TDI engine is both powerful and clean. At the heart of Bluetec technology there lies an SCR catalytic converter (Selective Catalytic Reduction).

THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL DIESEL PASSENGER CAR

Audi is proud to present a world first – the first twelve-cylinder diesel engine in a series passenger car. This six-liter V12 makes its debut in the Audi Q7. It produces a colossal 500 hp and 738 ft.-lbs. of torque. With this engine Audi has opened a new chapter in diesel history.

The V12 TDI is reminiscent of the engine featured in the new R10 Le Mans racing car – it catapults the driving performance of the Audi Q7 into the echelons of top-class sports cars. The car sprints from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.5 seconds, and has an electronically governed top speed of 155 mph. Maximum torque is available from just 1,750 rpm. The high-tech diesel engine, with the world’s first 29,000 psi Bosch Common Rail system, provides the high-performance Audi SUV with superior power reserves in any situation. The impressive sound of the new Audi is provided by the ultra-modern piezo-injection system. The V12 TDI transmits this power through a new six-speed tiptronic gearbox to the quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.

Although the V12 TDI belongs to the Audi V-engine family, this model features a special cylinder angle of 60° – perfect for this engine type. Apart from the light and highly durable crankcase, a further highlight is the new chain drive assembly. This includes the two newly developed high-pressure pumps in the common rail injection system.

Up to 29,000 psi of pressure is kept within the twelve piezo injectors – a further technological breakthrough. Both performance and efficiency are optimised by this high injection pressure, and the running smoothness also remains excellent. Exhaust emissions are also low. The twin-turbo V12 TDI conforms to the Euro 5 emissions class which should come into force in 2010. Fuel consumption is nearly 20 mpg. With the high-tech twelve-cylinder engine using TDI technology, the diesel pioneers at Audi have opened new horizons in motoring.
