Heuliez Citroen AX Evasion

1988

The Citroen AX Evasion was a one-off high-roof estate concept built by the French coachbuilder Heuliez, based on a stretched Citroen AX platform. Its layout echoed the Peugeot 309 Break, with a single door on the driver's side and two doors on the passenger side, using door panels taken from the three- and five-door AX. The AX wheelbase was lengthened by 23.5 cm, and the beltline and roofline were redesigned, with the roof rising sharply above the front doors and incorporating a glass insert that could be tilted open for ventilation. A black triangular panel matching the door frame color sat above the front doors, leading into raised rear side windows, while the beltline stepped upward over the rear wheel in a manner similar to the BX Break.

Inside, the Evasion added a third row of seats, allowing five adults plus two children to be carried, aided by a roofline 15 cm taller than the standard AX. The rear seats could be folded or removed to reconfigure the load area, and the cabin trim used buffalo leather and Woolmark wool, reflecting its intended use as a family and leisure vehicle.

The body was a high-roof estate with four doors (one on the left, two on the right, plus a tailgate) and seven seats. It used a lengthened Citroen AX floorpan with a 1361 cc four-cylinder diesel engine producing 53 hp at 5000 rpm and 84 Nm at 2500 rpm. Dimensions included a 252 cm wheelbase, track widths of 138/130 cm, and overall length/width/height of 373.5/155.5/150 cm.
