Lost Cause

UNITED STATES

time-calendar.png 1963-1964

Lost Cause Motors was formed by Charles Peasley Farnsley, a former Louisville, KY distiller of "Rebel Yell" brand whiskey and later mayor of the city. Fransley's concept of a luxury car was based on his conviction that there was a viable space in the marketplace for a customised car which would offer the buyer a car with an outstanding appearance, equipped with an array of features unavailable on a factory-produced car of that time.
Toward that goal he introduced the curiously named Lost Cause, a customised Chevrolet Corvair Monza sedan on a lengthened wheelbase with customising by Enos Derham of the Derham Custom Body Works. The Lost Cause was devoid of a nameplate and featured leather-covered top and leather-covered seats, walnut panelling, special lap robes and stop watch plus a tachometer, altimeters, compasses, matching luggage and car rugs, picnic hampers and - in true Kentucky tradition - mint julep cups of vermeil.
The car was, according to the announcement held in conjunction with its introduction at the Colisseum in New York City, to be made on a one-car-per-month basis of prices of $12,000 and, depending on further extras, as high as $23,000. Lost Cause Motors was short-lived.
