Golden Gate / Schilling

1894-1895

Golden Gate Schilling was an early automobile manufacturer based in San Francisco, California. Founded in the mid-1890s, the company was a division of A Schilling & Sons, which was known for producing gas engines.

In 1894, Golden Gate Schilling introduced a three-wheeled, two-seater automobile powered by a 2-horsepower engine. This vehicle was sold to a customer in Santa Maria, marking it as one of the first petrol cars available for sale in California. The company operated for a brief period, from 1894 to 1895, during the nascent stages of the automotive industry in the United States.

Although Golden Gate Schilling did not achieve long-term success, its contributions to early automotive development in California are noted in the history of American car manufacturing.
