The Detroiter was the brainchild of Raymond Russell, who had previously built the Gadabout and Russell. The Detroiter was a convertible with a fibreglass body, with the spare tyre mounted on the rear in lieu of a bumper, and used a 239ci Ford V8 engine and a 292cm (115 inch) Ford chassis.
