Club Car

1910-1911

Club Car Co. was an automobile manufacturer based in New York, New York, that operated briefly between 1910 and 1911. The company functioned as a cooperative, providing vehicles exclusively to its members. The cars were produced by Merchant & Evans, a firm located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The vehicles featured 40/50 horsepower four-cylinder engines sourced from the American & British Manufacturing Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The bodies of the cars were constructed by Biddle & Smart, a manufacturer based in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Club Car offered several models, including a runabout priced at $2,800 and a limousine or landaulette available for $3,750.

Despite the initial intentions of the club's organizers, who were primarily New York bankers, the membership numbers were low, resulting in very few cars being delivered. Eventually, Merchant & Evans sold the remaining Club Cars under the name Devon, marking the end of the Club Car Co.'s brief existence in the automotive industry.
