Keating Supercars was a British boutique supercar manufacturer founded by Anthony (Tony) Keating in 2006. The company was initially incorporated as Barabus Sportscars Ltd, based in Astley, Manchester, before being renamed Keating Supercars Limited. Keating, who had a background in mechanical engineering and experience in composites, CAD design, and powertrain development, set out to build world-class supercars in Britain.
The first models, the SKR and TKR, were launched on St George’s Day in April 2008 at Meols Hall, Southport. The SKR was designed as a road-going supercar offered with a range of GM LS-series V8 engines from 400 to 650 bhp, while the TKR was a more extreme variant, available with outputs up to 1500 bhp through twin-turbocharged 7.0-litre V8s. Customers could specify advanced options such as a carbon fibre chassis tub and bodywork. The TKR’s development became international, with moulds produced in the Philippines and the carbon tub manufactured in Italy.
Keating’s most high-profile moment came in 2009, when the TKR recorded a one-way top speed of 260.1 mph at El Mirage in California. Although not recognised as an official record by Guinness due to the lack of a return run, it exceeded the Bugatti Veyron’s figure and gave Keating brief international attention. The TKR was subsequently displayed at the MPH Show in London alongside Top Gear Live, where founder Tony Keating hailed it as Britain’s challenger to the world’s finest supercars.
Further models followed: the ZKR in 2011, the Bolt in 2013 with lighter aluminium construction and racing ambitions, and the Berus in 2017, intended to be offered in both V8 and electric configurations. Despite ambitious announcements, only a handful of cars were completed. Keating Supercars entered liquidation in May 2021 and was formally dissolved in June 2023, ending its attempt to establish a new British supercar marque.
