Jankel was a British specialist coachbuilder established in 1955 by Robert Jankel. While best known for luxury conversions and later military products, the company also developed a number of passenger and security-oriented vehicles in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Among the most notable was the Aigis, conceived as a discreet armoured escort vehicle to replace overweight civilian up-armoured SUVs. Built on heavy-duty Chevrolet K-Series or Ford Super Duty chassis, it provided NATO Level B6 protection as standard, with options for higher ballistic and blast resistance. The Aigis combined a low-profile SUV appearance with wide cabin access, strong acceleration and braking characteristics, and payload capacity of up to 1,500 kg. It entered service with the UK Ministry of Defence and news agencies in the Middle East, and could be configured for tasks ranging from escort to newsgathering operations.
Another related vehicle was the Stirling, a tactical intervention vehicle intended for counter-terrorist and hostage rescue teams. Based on the same heavy-duty truck platforms, it featured an armoured cab, removable ballistic panels, and a rear assault system capable of deploying personnel onto aircraft, ships, buses, or buildings. The Stirling integrated assault ladders and gantries with runflat tyres and full B6 protection, providing specialist law enforcement and military units with a mobile platform for intervention operations.
