Abingdon [2]

UNITED KINGDOM

time-calendar.png 1922-1923

The renowned manufacturer of the Abingdon King Dick spanner, Abingdon Works Co. Ltd, also ventured into the production of motor fittings and motorcycles from 1903 to 1933. Among their notable creations was the 11.9hp Abingdon 4-seater, which was equipped with a 4-cylinder 1490cc Dorman engine. This vehicle featured a single-plate clutch, a Wrigley 3-speed gearbox, and electric starting. The Abingdon 4-seater was priced at £340.

However, the car's launch was marred by the financial difficulties of Wrigley, a key supplier of components like the steering gear. In 1924, Wrigley became part of Morris-Commercial, which significantly impacted Abingdon's ability to source essential parts. Consequently, the low sales numbers did not support continued production, and only 12 units of the Abingdon 4-seater were ever built.
