Wairau Cycle & Motor Works was a New Zealand-based manufacturer located in Blenheim, South Island. The company was founded by C.J. Bateman, who initially produced motorcycles. In 1913, Bateman introduced the Blenheim motorcycle, which marked the beginning of his foray into the automotive industry.

In 1915, Bateman expanded his production to include cyclecars, showcasing his model that was powered by a 2.5 horsepower J.A.P. engine. This vehicle utilized a belt drive system to transfer power to the rear wheels. At the time, it was claimed to be the smallest practical car in New Zealand, with an impressive fuel efficiency of 120 miles per gallon (approximately 4.55 liters per 100 kilometers).
