Jonelis

Jonelis developed a Lithuanian experimental electric prototype based on the Ford Transit platform, configured as a pickup truck. This project, active around 2010, demonstrated the company’s integration of its in-house electric drive and battery management technologies into a light commercial vehicle. The Transit-based pickup was equipped with an Italian-built AC induction motor, controlled by Jonelis’s proprietary inverter system, which converted direct current into three-phase alternating current while also enabling regenerative braking.

The vehicle made use of Jonelis’s lithium iron phosphate battery pack, rated at 144 volts with individual 100 Ah cells, capable of delivering up to 400 A in short bursts. A touchscreen-based management system provided monitoring of charging and discharging cycles to ensure reliable performance. The pickup configuration highlighted the adaptability of Jonelis’s systems beyond passenger cars, targeting utility applications where durability and range were critical. While the prototype showcased technical competence, the company did not proceed to series production, and Jonelis remained a niche engineering venture focused on custom EV solutions.
