Austral was an Australian automobile manufacturer founded in 1913 in Caulfield, Victoria. The company initially produced cycle-cars, a trend that was popular during that era. Austral’s vehicles were notable for their use of an 8 horsepower, 947 cc Peugeot V-twin engine, which featured automatic inlet valves.

The design of Austral cars included a friction drive system, which was a common transmission method at the time. This system utilized belts to transfer power to the rear wheels. Additionally, Austral incorporated Chater-Lea front wheel brakes in their vehicles, a feature that was quite unusual for such a minimal vehicle during that period.
