Renault has once again pushed the boundaries of electric mobility with the unveiling of the Filante Record 2025, an electric demo car designed to maximize energy efficiency and set new records in power consumption and range. This cutting-edge vehicle, equipped with an 87 kWh battery—the same as the Scenic E-Tech Electric—aims to redefine what’s possible in sustainable transportation.
A Fusion of History and Innovation
The Filante Record 2025 is more than just a high-performance prototype; it’s a tribute to Renault’s legendary record-breaking vehicles, including the 40 CV des Records (1925-1926), Nervasport des Records (1934), and the Étoile Filante (1956). These historic models cemented Renault’s reputation in endurance and speed, and the new Filante Record 2025 is poised to continue that legacy.
Renault has meticulously crafted this single-seater with a streamlined body, reminiscent of an aeronautical sculpture. Measuring 5.12 meters long and only 1.19 meters tall, and weighing just 1,000 kg, the car is designed for supreme aerodynamic efficiency.
Aerodynamic Excellence and Lightweight Engineering
Aerodynamics plays a pivotal role in the Filante Record 2025’s design, inspired by fighter jets and high-speed land vehicles. Renault’s designers and engineers worked closely to create a monolithic, flowing shape that appears to be sculpted by the wind.
A key feature is its front and rear wheel fairings, which minimize turbulence and improve efficiency. The Ultraviolet Blue bodywork, shifting between blue and violet hues depending on the light, pays homage to Renault’s historic record cars.
To further optimize aerodynamics, Renault used advanced wind tunnel simulations and will conduct additional tests in spring 2025 to refine its performance. The elongated body ensures minimal drag, and every surface was designed to maximize airflow control.
Innovative Technologies: A Laboratory on Wheels
The Filante Record 2025 is not just about aesthetics—it’s a technological powerhouse, featuring cutting-edge systems that could shape future production vehicles. These include:
- Steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire technologies, eliminating mechanical connections and reducing weight.
- Cell-to-pack battery technology, optimizing space and reducing weight while maintaining a 600 kg battery pack within a 1,000 kg total weight.
- Lightweight materials, including carbon fiber and Scalmalloy, a high-strength aluminum alloy used in aerospace.
- Specially developed Michelin low-resistance tyres, designed to enhance range and efficiency by reducing rolling resistance by nearly 40% compared to conventional tyres.
A Cockpit Designed for Performance
The interior of the Filante Record 2025 follows the same principle of efficiency and aerodynamics. The driver’s seat is a lightweight, stretched canvas structure, offering both comfort and minimal weight. The F1-inspired driving position places the driver’s legs over the battery for optimal space usage.
One of the most futuristic elements is the 3D-printed steering wheel, which integrates all driving functions, including acceleration and braking. The wheel also features a flexible panoramic display for essential driving data.
Pushing the Boundaries of Efficiency
Renault’s dedication to efficiency is evident in every aspect of the Filante Record 2025. By combining aerodynamics, lightweight materials, and state-of-the-art electronics, this vehicle aims to establish new benchmarks in energy consumption and range. Its upcoming record attempts will serve as a proof of concept for future Renault electric vehicles.
The Filante Record 2025 will be showcased at the Rétromobile motor show in Paris from February 5-9, 2025, before embarking on its record-setting journey in the first half of the year. This extraordinary project embodies Renault’s commitment to pushing the limits of electric mobility, blending heritage, innovation, and sustainability into one remarkable vehicle.
With a century-old tradition of breaking records, Renault is once again proving that the future of electric mobility is both thrilling and limitless.
