Porsche's Record-Breaking Taycan Turbo GT: Unleashing Electric Performance [w/Video]

Mar 13, 2024

Porsche is rewriting the rules of electric sports sedans with its latest offerings – the Taycan Turbo GT and the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package. These cutting-edge models not only promise an exhilarating driving experience but have already set record lap times at iconic tracks like Laguna Seca and the Nürburgring. In this article, we dive into the details of these remarkable electric GT sports cars and their outstanding achievements.

Porsche's commitment to pushing boundaries in electric mobility is evident in the Taycan Turbo GT series. The addition of the Weissach package transforms the model into a track-focused powerhouse by removing rear seats, enhancing the power-to-weight ratio, and unleashing over 1,100 PS at peak power.

Both the Taycan Turbo GT and its Weissach-clad counterpart boast peak power that exceeds 1,100 PS, setting a new standard in the world of electric sports cars. Achieving this remarkable feat involves a combination of lightweight construction, aerodynamics, and a more powerful and efficient pulse inverter using silicon carbide as the semiconductor material on the rear axle.

Before even hitting the market, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package made history by becoming the fastest electric series-production car at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca. Porsche development driver Lars Kern clocked an impressive lap time of 1:27.87min., showcasing the exceptional capabilities of this model on the track.

Further solidifying its track prowess, a pre-production version of the Taycan Turbo GT set a new class record at the Nürburgring, with Lars Kern once again behind the wheel. The remarkable lap time of 7:07.55 min. not only outpaced its predecessor, the Taycan Turbo S Sport sedan, by 26 seconds but also claimed the title of the fastest four-door of any powertrain type on the Nürburgring.

The Taycan Turbo GT introduces an innovative Attack Mode, providing an extra 120 kW of power for 10 seconds at the push of a button. This feature, inspired by the push-to-pass function in other Taycan models, enhances the driving experience on the track. The upgraded power electronics in the Taycan Turbo GT series, utilizing silicon carbide in the pulse inverter, contribute to higher power output and improved efficiency.

Porsche recently upgraded the Taycan model line, elevating overall system power. The Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package serve as sporting flagship models, featuring a more powerful pulse inverter and a rear-axle motor for dynamic performance. With Launch Control, these models can reach up to 760 kW of overboost power or up to 815 kW for two seconds.

Intelligent lightweight construction measures contribute to a weight reduction of up to 75 kg in the Taycan Turbo GT compared to the Taycan Turbo S. Carbon fiber components, full bucket seats, and the omission of certain features all contribute to enhanced driving dynamics. Equipped with the dynamics package and Porsche Active Ride suspension, the Taycan Turbo GT series ensures an unparalleled connection to the road in dynamic driving situations.

The Taycan Turbo GT features additional aerodynamic elements, including a front spoiler with aeroblades and an adaptive spoiler with a Gurney flap at the rear. Matrix LED headlights, carbon fiber trims, and exclusive Turbo GT wheels with relief-milled spokes add to its distinctive appearance.

Inside the Taycan Turbo GT, a sporty Race-Tex finish with black leather trims comes as standard. Lightweight full bucket seats in a carbon-weave finish, a GT sports steering wheel, and the Sport Chrono package from the Taycan Turbo S further enhance the racing-inspired interior.

For enthusiasts seeking ultimate track performance, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package takes things up a notch. Additional aerodynamics measures, a fixed rear wing, and a significant weight reduction further amplify the model's track capabilities. With a tailored lightweight carbon cladding, this two-seater achieves a top speed of 305 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in an astonishing 2.2 seconds.

Porsche's Taycan Turbo GT series, with its record-breaking achievements and technological advancements, is redefining the electric sports sedan landscape. These models not only deliver breathtaking performance on the track but also embody Porsche's relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence in the realm of electric mobility. As the Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package hit the streets, they mark a new chapter in the evolution of electric high-performance vehicles.
