In a thrilling demonstration of engineering prowess, Koenigsegg Automotive has once again set a new benchmark in hypercar performance. On June 27th, 2024, at an airfield in Örebro, Sweden, the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut shattered the 0-400-0 km/h world record, achieving this incredible feat in just 27.83 seconds. This latest achievement reaffirms Koenigsegg’s reputation as the creator of the world's most innovative and extreme-performance megacars.
In 2023, the Koenigsegg Regera had reclaimed the 0-400-0 km/h world record with a time of 28.81 seconds at the same airfield. This year, Koenigsegg returned with the Jesko Absolut to not only break the record but to redefine what’s possible in hypercar performance. The Jesko Absolut, driven by test driver Markus Lundh, outperformed its predecessor by nearly a full second, showcasing the relentless pursuit of perfection that Koenigsegg is known for.
The Jesko Absolut’s design is focused on achieving unmatched straight-line speed, featuring a body with minimal drag. With a drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.278, it ranks among the most aerodynamically efficient hypercars. This sleek design, characterized by a smaller frontal area, limited venting for high-pressure air release, and the absence of active aero, played a critical role in its record-breaking performance.
In a single run, the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut didn’t just break the 0-400-0 km/h record; it set four new world records for a fully homologated, standard production car:
- 0-400-0 km/h: 27.83 seconds
- 0-400 km/h: 18.82 seconds
- 0-250-0 mph: 28.27 seconds
- 0-250 mph: 19.20 seconds
The record-setting run took place in the early hours of June 27th, under optimal conditions. After preliminary runs on June 26th, which were hampered by higher temperatures, the team found the right moment at 5 am on June 27th. The cooler ambient air and track temperatures, combined with calm winds, provided the ideal setting for the Jesko Absolut to unleash its full potential.
Remarkably, the Jesko Absolut achieved its record-breaking performance in standard condition. It ran on E85 fuel and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tires, with no modifications other than a roll cage for driver safety and a One:1 driver seat, preferred by Markus Lundh for high-speed events. All performance data was meticulously recorded using Racelogic's industry-standard timing equipment and verified by Racelogic HQ in the UK.
Christian von Koenigsegg, the driving force behind Koenigsegg Automotive, reflected on this monumental achievement with an eye towards future records. He emphasized that the Jesko Absolut's performance not only validates their simulations but also paves the way for future attempts at even greater speed records. He hinted at ongoing tire testing and development as the next steps in pushing the limits of the Jesko Absolut. Moreover, the team is excited about exploring the track performance of the Jesko Attack.
Koenigsegg continues to set the bar higher in the realm of hypercar performance. With the Jesko Absolut’s record-breaking 0-400-0 km/h run, the brand has once again demonstrated its unparalleled engineering capabilities and commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the automotive world. As we look forward to future records and innovations, one thing is clear: Koenigsegg remains at the forefront of hypercar excellence.
Stay tuned for more updates and groundbreaking achievements from Koenigsegg!
