the story of the vision industries goes back to 1997 when the company was established in los angeles/orange county california - the state where lots of low-volume american manufacturers find the place to realize their own ideas of perfect high-performance car. namely with this challenging vision in mind, john misumi formed the specialty automotive engineering and design company company. mr. misumi, who during 1984 and 1985 has worked with vector aeromotive corporation, in the areas of operations, marketing and finance today is a leading force of the vision industries.
the first results of the development was ready as early as 1998 when the white foam and fiberglass non-runing mock-up has been finished. named k/2 it was designed by a well-known automotive designer tom kellog, who in his carrer has participated in the development of the studebaker avanti in 1961 and was also responsible for design of the new avanti (which seemingly is no longer available).
the k/2, which is the last design of tom kellog, was demonstrated in 1998 at both sema show in las vegas and the greater los angeles motor show. after these appearances, the company passed into silence for seven years until 2005 when they showed a running prototype of the k/2, now named the szr, at the greater los angeles international auto show. painted in charcoal gray the car was originally powered by bmw 6.0-litre v12, but later it has been changed to chevrolet 502 ramjet v8 engine. the szr, featuring both external and internal changes and improvements has been repainted pearl orange. most of the body, engine and transmission of the gray and orange vision szr are the same. however, the entire chassis, except the center, (tub), section has been changed. the suspension as well as the interior has also been completely re-developed. in 2007, vision industries demonstrated this supercar at the sema show in las vegas.
