de macross motors corporation was established by mr. jahong hur in vancouver, british columbia in 2009. since then the company worked closely with multimatic - a canadian engineering company and oem parts supplier - which engineered and built the first prototype which was announced in the end of august, 2010 when a the first pictures of their 1/4 scale model were released.
an extreme machine or a supercar at its best, the gt1 uses the most advanced materials and technologies. some of them are derived directly from top class racing including formula 1 and lmp.
the hand-built bodywork which is is the direct creation of mr. hur uses a carbon fiber composite materials and was created defying the cliché of "form follows function". as the company says, the design was inspired by ferrari 512tr and lamborghini countach. this is why the first model of de macross doesn't look like a modern supercar. its exterior embodies the best traditions of those which were iconic in the 90s, 80s or even 60s and its appearance which may look frumpy is a representation of classic and timeless design language.
lying beneath the sleek skin is a state-of-the-art hybrid carbon fibre – aluminum monocoque tub structure with integrated front and rear sub-frame modules for suspension, steering, engine and driveline mounting. the chassis and suspension systems for the gt1 was built by multimatic. this company has more than 25-year experience of performance vehicles and their portfolio includes such amazing cars like shelby series 1, ford mustang boss 302r, ruf ctr3 and aston martin one-77.
having both street and track performance in mind, the company equipped the gt1 with an aluminium mid-mounted 5.4-liters v8 supercharged engine specially engineered and built by roush yates racing. for this moment, not much information is revealed about the heart of the de macross' creation, but it is known that the aggregate is capable of maximum power output of 800+ hp and 700+ (948+ nm) lb-ft of torque.
these are the staggering numbers for a car which, when enters limited production, will ensure exclusive ownership, elegance and performance. moreover, the gt1 will not be the only model in de macross line-up since there are at least three more models (gt, gt2 and gt3) to be released soon together with a model of an armored vehicle. the price for the gt1 is not yet announced but hopefully further details will be announced after the world premiere of the de macross gt1 at 2011 dubai international motor show this november. stay tuned for the news!
