Callum C-X75: CALLUM Brings the "One That Got Away" to Life

Oct 30, 2024

CALLUM, a creative automotive design and engineering studio, has made headlines by realizing the ultimate road-ready version of Jaguar’s iconic C-X75. Known as “the one that got away,” the C-X75 never saw mass production but has since become a coveted concept with a reputation for elegance and engineering potential. CALLUM has now harnessed that unfulfilled potential, working closely with a passionate client to transform the vehicle into a truly bespoke, highly refined supercar ready for the road. This project showcases CALLUM’s ability to blend customer-driven customization with innovative engineering.

A Vision Fulfilled: From Concept to Reality

The C-X75, originally unveiled in 2010, was met with high expectations but never saw full-scale production. Designed to embody Jaguar’s forward-thinking design and engineering prowess, it featured advanced technologies and a sculpted design that captivated supercar enthusiasts. This latest iteration by CALLUM stands as a homage to the car’s original promise, expertly modified to bring it to its ultimate form as a road-going marvel. Ian Callum, the design visionary behind the original C-X75 and now co-founder of CALLUM, emphasized the project’s significance, calling it a “thoroughly satisfying conclusion” that realizes the concept’s full potential.

Precision Engineering Meets Unmatched Aesthetics

CALLUM’s engineers have meticulously reengineered this second customer-commissioned C-X75, drawing on their experience modifying the car for the James Bond film Spectre. Every aspect, from the powertrain to the active aerodynamics, has been fine-tuned to deliver enhanced performance and comfort. A supercharged V8 engine, now paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, propels the C-X75 to impressive speeds, while software-controlled electronics adapt to either an everyday road mode or a high-performance, sport-driven configuration.

The car’s active aerodynamics package provides stability with a unique air brake and additional downforce at speeds exceeding 60 km/h. For urban maneuverability, a hydraulic front lift system adds convenience and accessibility. The extensive 1,000-hour labor on the car’s body is equally notable. Finished in a refined Willow Green, a custom color inspired by willow tree leaves, the car’s exterior blends earthy tones with subtle hints of yellow. The result is a distinctive look that exudes understated sophistication, enhanced by brushed aluminum accents, a custom-made filler cap, and carbon-fiber details.

An Interior Transformed for a Luxurious Drive

Inside, CALLUM has redefined the stunt car’s utilitarian cockpit with a sophisticated, driver-centered design. CALLUM’s head of design, Aleck Jones, highlighted the unique approach: rather than choosing between dark sporty or light luxurious interiors, the team combined both. Rich green and cream shades meet along a dynamic 40-degree “waterline,” creating a striking yet harmonious interior. Premium Bridge of Weir leather upholstery ensures comfort, while a modernized cockpit showcases CALLUM’s hallmark “Arrowhead Necklace” metal feature encircling the cabin.

The car’s controls have been modernized, with touchscreen-integrated rotary dials angled for the driver’s convenience. Above, an acrylic cowl shields the digital instrument cluster, maintaining the cockpit’s clean lines. Further innovations include a roof-mounted start button, a design inspired by aircraft for intuitive control while preserving the cabin’s aesthetic purity. An advanced sound system, custom-designed for the car, delivers high-quality audio for everyday driving, complete with wireless connectivity and Apple CarPlay integration.

A Showcase of Modern Manufacturing and Design Ingenuity

CALLUM has leveraged cutting-edge additive manufacturing with Stratasys to design and produce complex components for the C-X75, allowing for enhanced form and functionality. Components such as the sill trim feature integrated cup holders—a testament to CALLUM’s expertise in functional design. By exploring the possibilities of additive manufacturing, CALLUM created unique interior details and seamlessly integrated modern conveniences like air conditioning and premium sound while maintaining the car’s sleek design.

The refined C-X75 represents a leap forward in CALLUM’s “one-of-one” bespoke projects, establishing a reputation for the studio’s ability to bring even the most ambitious visions to reality. This custom C-X75 joins CALLUM’s expanding portfolio of high-end commissions, including their work on the Prodrive P25 interiors and the CALLUM Vanquish 25—a limited-production, reimagined version of the Aston Martin Vanquish.

An Icon Reborn, Built to Thrill

CALLUM’s C-X75 is more than a reimagined concept; it’s a living testament to what the Jaguar C-X75 could have been. By pushing the boundaries of engineering, design, and personalization, CALLUM has not only brought the "one that got away" to life but has also set a new standard for bespoke automotive craftsmanship.
