Aston Martin Unveils the New Vantage Roadster: Open-Air Thrills with Uncompromised Performance

Jan 16, 2025

15 January 2025, Gaydon, Warwickshire – Aston Martin has officially introduced the highly anticipated Vantage Roadster, bringing the exhilarating performance of the Vantage Coupe to an open-top driving experience. Engineered for true driving enthusiasts, the Vantage Roadster stands as the most potent front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car available with a convertible roof, seamlessly combining raw performance with top-down freedom.

Engineering Excellence: Performance Without Compromise

The Vantage Roadster carries forward the technical advancements introduced in the 2024 Vantage Coupe, ensuring industry-leading Active Vehicle Dynamics, an Electronic Rear Differential (E-diff), and Bilstein DTX adaptive dampers with bespoke tuning. Designed to maintain class-leading performance, the Roadster is powered by Aston Martin’s 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, delivering an astonishing 665PS and 800Nm of torque.

With a lightweight structure, the Vantage Roadster achieves a 0-60mph time of just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 202mph, mirroring the Coupe. Despite the addition of a retractable roof and structural enhancements, the weight increase is a mere 60kg, ensuring the car retains its dynamic prowess. The roof itself is the fastest electric folding convertible roof available, taking just 6.8 seconds to open or close, even at speeds of up to 31mph (50km/h).

A Legacy of Open-Top Performance

The new Vantage Roadster continues Aston Martin’s 75-year tradition of open-top sports cars, dating back to the 1950 DB2 Vantage drophead coupe. The latest iteration celebrates 20 years of the modern V8 Vantage, first introduced in 2005, marking another milestone in the brand’s evolution.

Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark emphasized that the Vantage Roadster is engineered to deliver a class-leading driving experience, achieving performance parity with the Coupe while maintaining the refinement expected of an Aston Martin.

Engineering Innovations: Structure, Suspension, and Braking

The Vantage Roadster benefits from an ultra-stiff yet lightweight aluminum structure, ensuring that the car retains its exceptional agility and responsiveness. The weight distribution, adjusted for the rearward shift in mass, is 49:51 front to rear, optimizing handling characteristics.

Equipped with race-inspired double wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link rear axle, along with Bilstein DTX adaptive dampers, the Vantage Roadster delivers a precise and confidence-inspiring driving experience. A non-isolated steering column ensures direct feedback, while the car’s Advanced Traction Control system allows drivers to fine-tune handling across eight different settings.

Stopping power is equally impressive, with carbon ceramic brakes featuring massive 410mm front discs and six-piston calipers, ensuring rapid deceleration. The Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tyres, specifically developed for the Vantage, provide outstanding grip and exceptional steering feel.

Convertible Innovation: Fastest Folding Roof in the Industry

The Vantage Roadster features a Z-fold roof, which not only reduces weight but also eliminates the need for a tonneau cover, further enhancing the car’s low center of gravity. The roof operation takes just 6.8 seconds, making it the fastest fully automatic convertible roof mechanism available today. Even with the roof up, the eight-layer insulation ensures that cabin noise levels remain comparable to those of the Coupe.

Timeless Design: A Convertible Without Compromise

Maintaining the stunning lines of the Vantage Coupe, the Vantage Roadster seamlessly integrates its retractable roof while preserving the sculptural beauty and aerodynamic efficiency of the original design. The high waistline and aggressive stance ensure the car retains its predatory presence, while the widened front grille enhances engine cooling by 30%.

The Vantage Roadster introduces three new exterior colors—Iridescent Sapphire, Satin Iridescent Sapphire, and Bronze Flare—along with a range of fabric roof colors including Black, Red, Blue, and Black & Silver. Further customization is available through Aston Martin’s Q personalisation service, allowing for bespoke liveries, wheel finishes, and brake caliper color options.

Advanced Infotainment and Cutting-Edge Technology

Like its Coupe counterpart, the Vantage Roadster features Aston Martin’s next-generation infotainment system, developed in-house. A 10.25” touchscreen with gesture control provides seamless connectivity, while physical switches for key functions ensure driver-focused ergonomics. The system is complemented by a dedicated Aston Martin connectivity app, allowing remote vehicle control and status monitoring.

For audiophiles, the standard 390W 11-speaker system offers an immersive experience, while the optional Bowers & Wilkins audio system delivers studio-quality sound, acoustically tuned to the Vantage Roadster’s cabin.

Aston Martin’s Most Exciting Roadster Yet

Set to begin deliveries in Q2 2025, the Vantage Roadster joins a lineup of Aston Martin’s finest models, including the DB12, DB12 Volante, Vanquish, DBX707, and the forthcoming Valhalla supercar. Designed for true enthusiasts, the Vantage Roadster represents the pinnacle of open-top sports car performance, delivering a driving experience that is as thrilling as it is uncompromised.

With explosive power, cutting-edge technology, and a breathtaking design, the new Vantage Roadster is set to become a modern classic, redefining the boundaries of convertible performance. Whether carving through winding roads or cruising along coastal highways, this roof-down masterpiece is engineered to exhilarate.
