2009-2020

Steenstra GCM was a California-based electric supercar startup founded by automotive designer and consultant Cornelis (“Cor”) Steenstra to develop zero-emission vehicles aimed at the upper end of the performance market. The company publicly positioned itself as a flexible, low-volume manufacturer that would initially rely on proven electric-vehicle technology while remaining open to adopting newer zero-emission systems as they became viable, with an expressed intent to move downmarket later as costs fell. Its best-known announced model was the Styletto, an all-electric supercar concept revealed in 2009 and promoted as a flagship for a planned range; company materials later framed the Styletto as a limited-production program with an aspirational launch window around 2020 and a target output of roughly 100 cars per year. By the late 2010s and early 2020s, Steenstra GCM’s outward-facing communications also referenced broader “green mobility” initiatives beyond passenger cars, including a patent-pending MagLev freight-infrastructure concept, indicating that the brand’s public activity encompassed both boutique-vehicle ambitions and related clean-transportation projects.
