Chautauqua was an American automobile manufacturer established in 1914, based in Jamestown, New York. The company was known for producing cyclecars, a category of small, lightweight vehicles that were popular in the early 20th century.
The Chautauqua Cydecar Co. introduced its vehicle powered by a 12-horsepower, 2-cylinder Spacke air-cooled engine. This model featured a notably wide tread of 56 inches (1422 mm), which was more typical of larger cars rather than cyclecars. Additionally, it included a unique steering column-mounted gear change, distinguishing it from other vehicles in its class.
Despite plans for a more advanced 4-cylinder model, the company ceased operations before this could be realized. Chautauqua's brief existence reflected the challenges faced by many small manufacturers during the era, ultimately leading to its dissolution.
