Avant-Garde Technology

2011-2016

Avant-Garde Technology was a small American custom-car marque operated as part of Grenit Corporation in Lancaster, New York. Led by founder/owner-designer Ken Kumiega, the firm hand-built a two-seat roadster that drew on early post-war sports-car styling while using modern engineering. The composite-body, rear-drive car was described as weighing about 2,600–2,700 lb and using a V8 rated near 420 hp with a 5-speed racing transmission, 4.56 rear axle, fully independent suspension, and four-wheel large disc brakes; claimed performance included 0–60 mph in roughly 3.5 seconds. The prototype debuted publicly at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival in September 2011, and the car was selected for Gene Winfield’s Top 12 at the Syracuse Nationals in July 2012. Design and show activities credited Kumiega as chief designer, with contributions from his son Daniel Kumiega.
