1991-1994

Australian expatriate Formula 1 and sportscar driver Vern Schuppan offered for sale a roadgoing version of the Group C Porsche 962 sportscar, called the Schuppan 962CR. The 962CR shared the same carbon-fibre chassis as the Group C racing cars. The 3.3 litre flat-6 twin-turbo Porsche engine was claimed to produce 600bhp and give the 962CR a top speed of 349 km/h (217 mph). Finance for the project came from the Art Corporation of Osaka, Japan, with the coupe bodywork was designed by Holden employee Mike Simcoe. The price new was 770,000 pounds (US$1,000,000), but only five cars were built before the venture folded. 4 of the 5 962CRs built still survive, with 1 being destroyed in a fire.
