The CR2, designed by John Ward, was a lightweight kit car inspired by the origins of automotive craftsmanship. Featuring a mid-mounted 1.6-liter Toyota engine, it had a compact size with a length of 3500mm, a width of 1700mm, and a height of 200mm, all supported by a 2300mm wheelbase and 1440mm track. Weighing in at just 800kg, it was engineered for performance with disc brakes at both the front and rear and seating for two.
The chassis was constructed from fully triangulated 25mm square tubing, optimized to house components sourced primarily from the Toyota MR2, including suspension, steering, braking, and electrical systems. The body panels combined aesthetic appeal with practical construction, utilizing molded and shaped marine plywood covered with fiberglass. The design philosophy emphasized the use of a single donor vehicle for efficiency and simplicity in sourcing parts, facilitating a streamlined certification process.
