Cremer

GERMANY

time-calendar.png 1959

Eimo Cremer, a native of Wolfsburg and a retired mechanical engineer, built the Cremer Roadster between 1959 and 1963. From a young age, Cremer was interested in automobiles, beginning with drawing cars based on models and later designing his own. He progressed to building 1:10 scale models before constructing a full-scale car.

The Cremer Roadster is a custom-built vehicle, not a replica of any existing model. To ensure originality, Cremer acquired a magazine that listed all cars worldwide. The car features a distinctive design: while the front resembles an Italian sports car from the 1960s, the rear is unique. Materials used in the bodywork included polyester, rabbit wire, plaster, and concrete. The structure was created using a positive mold built with brick, wooden beams, and other materials in Cremer’s parents’ garden.

The car incorporates parts from various sources: it uses a Volkswagen Beetle chassis, a fuel tank from a Lloyd Alexander, headlights and handles from a BMW 700, and taillights from an Opel Olympia P2. The original vehicle reached a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).

Years later, the vehicle was modified by Cremer’s brother Enno, who resides in Aurich. Between 1987 and 2016, he upgraded the vehicle to reach 125 km/h, modernized the interior, and applied a new paint job. Both brothers continue to drive the roadster.

Cremer Roadster still exists and is driven today.
