Corrao

ARGENTINA

time-calendar.png 1955

The Corrao car, a remarkable example of hand-built automotive craftsmanship, was conceived and constructed by Hugo Corrao and his brother Aurelio, both students at the Escuela Industrial Superior de Santa Fe. With the guidance of professors Domingo Ochoteco and Graciano Ezcurra, the brothers brought their vision to life, resulting in a unique 2-door convertible coupe that reflects the design trends of the mid-20th century.

At the heart of the Corrao car lies a powerful 1937 Ford V8 engine, delivering 85 horsepower. The chassis, crafted from sturdy rectangular-section beams of #14 sheet metal, ensures a solid foundation. The car features an independent front suspension, while components such as the gearbox and differential were sourced from production cars, showcasing a blend of innovation and practicality typical of handmade automobiles.

Aesthetically, the Corrao car stands out with its sleek lines and embedded headlights, painted in a striking metallic blue. The convertible design includes a removable hood made of black canvas, adding to its elegant profile. The overall design emphasizes a harmonious balance between functionality and style, capturing the essence of automotive design during that era.

In a significant moment for the Corrao family, the brothers, accompanied by their father, made a memorable journey to the Buenos Aires City Racetrack for the 1955 World Drivers' Championship. The trip covered 450 kilometers both ways, marking a proud milestone in the car’s history.

In the mid-1960s, the car changed hands and was sold while in Aurelio's possession. This marks the last known record of its whereabouts, leaving the fate of this distinctive vehicle a mystery.
