Able to travel through swampy jungles...able to carry rifles, ammunition and a two-way radio...able to outlast the toughest game on a wild African safari — yes, that's right, it's SUPER VAN.
Also called the Econoline Kilimanjaro, this 1970 Ford Division show vehicle is a spacious, rugged, off-the-road vehicle specifically designed as the only first class way to make the scene at the next safari.
The four-wheel-drive, van-type vehicle is a far out modification of Ford Division's hot selling Econoline, available as passenger or cargo carrier.
Kilimanjaro's modifications begin with a redesigned front end featuring large rectangular assemblies that encase headlamps and air intakes. Auxiliary running lights are above the rugged, extended bumpers. Fittings for large water cans lie between bumper and sheetmetal.
A vertical air intake snorkel along the A pillar lets Kilimanjaro travel through swampy water and also provides clean air to the carburetor during travels over dusty terrain.
Bright spotlights to locate game at night are located in containers mounted just over the windshield.
Footstep assemblies on the side provide easy access to the roof observation deck. Also on the driver's side is an outside access panel to a below-the-floor storage panel designed to accept rifles.
Wide, specially built, super-traction tires on the Kilimanjaro have been designated by Firestone as FR 55 x 15 Snow-Sport Suburbans. Kilimanjaro's front, rear and sides are superimposed with a 15-inch band of leopard skin with the exterior finished in "bush jacket beige."
Six passengers can be seated in ginger-colored vinyl bucket seats.
The vehicle also includes gun racks and ammunition storage areas on the inner rear door panels and a two-way radio in the front storage tray. The interior is fully covered with ginger-colored, weather-resistant carpeting.
