The XP-807 program, initiated in mid-1963 by GM Design's Bill Mitchell with backing from Chevy management, sought to develop a completely new iteration of the Corvette for the 1967 model year. Despite never being exhibited beyond the confines of GM, XP-807 introduced a plethora of innovative concepts. These included a reinforced fiberglass chassis and a detachable roof panel, signaling a departure from traditional design approaches. The envisioned '67 program promised a substantial departure from the anticipated major facelift of the StingRay model that ultimately reached production.
