At the 2002 Geneva Motorshow Peugeot will showcase two seemingly identical coupes, with only the exterior color to tell them apart. But as always looks deceive, one of the so called RC concepts is powered by a petrol engine while the second is powered by a HDi direct injection Diesel engine.
The structure of an RC is made from carbon pre-impregnated directly onto honeycomb panels, formed and baked into an autoclave. This self-supporting shell incorporates a cage roll-over bar manufactured from high strength steel and forms a rigid assembly, including the roof, to which are attached the front wings, the hoods and the two 'beetle winged' doors. The body infiltration point corresponds to an aileron, mobile over a distance of 40 mm. This gives the driver, at his discretion, extra road holding on the rear drive train, safe in the knowledge that, even with the aileron in the retracted position, the SCz = 0. Also at the rear, the suspension arms are rigidly attached to the sub-frame while the shock absorbers (dampers) are secured to the carbon structural shell. The bonded panoramic windscreen is specially designed to provide a wide field of vision despite its very advanced position.
The transmission is provided by a 6-speed manual gearbox. The ML6 C version electro-hydraulic gearbox is controlled and the gears are adapted to the engine speed and torque ranges of each engine. This gearbox has hydraulically controlled gear selection and gear change. A sequential control lever is positioned in the central tunnel and the driver also has two buttons situated on the steering wheel. The gearbox also has an entirely automatic operating mode.
