mercedes is one of the most sought-after brands in the entire world. the iconic badge is considered a status symbol and the german manufacturer has a long history of developing the world’s most luxurious and stylish automobiles. whilst many motorists desire the latest mercedes vehicles, many motorists in the uk still view the classics as the most appealing cars.
these iconic automobiles have lasted the test of time and many are relics from their era. mercedes has always been known to be a pioneer in the industry and many of their classic cars heavily inspired the vehicles that followed. here are a few classics which many car enthusiasts dream of driving:
slk class (1996-2004)
many modern convertibles use an electric folding hardtop, but it was the slk class that popularised this in the late 90’s. this sleek sports car was all about style and turned heads with its looks, but it was also brilliantly engineered and delivered a po-werful performance (especially from 2000 onwards).
despite its cool style and impressive performance, the slk was one of the more af-fordable mercedes convertibles and today it is a rising classic. it is a good classic to own as it is relatively modern and parts are easily available. additionally, it is affordable now but the value only looks set to soar over the coming years.
s-class (1991-1999)
when you think of classic mercedes vehicles, there is a very good chance that it looks something like the s-class from 91 to 99. this vehicle is practically unmatched in terms of comfort, power, reliability and prestige with the large saloon being immensely popular with executives as a status symbol throughout the 90's.
it is very well built and handles surprisingly well for a car of this size, plus this ver-sion is also known for introduced a handful of new technologies. this includes self-closing doors, electronic stability program (esp), brake assist (very common today) and electronic brakeforce distribution. whilst some will say that it is too bulky to own today, the desirability of this car ensure that it remains a huge classic.
sl r107 (1971 - 1989)
this iconic automobile is regularly seen in hollywood films and this is no surprise as it is such a beautiful car both inside and out. the two-seater luxury touring car with a detachable roof was surprisingly affordable and a great entry car for mercedes enthusiasts. in addition to turning heads, the sl r107 was great to drive with a very reliable performance (this is reflected in its lengthy production run). the engine continued to improve over the years, so those interested in purchasing one may want to look at the late 80’s versions.
protect your investment
whilst the german brand is known for developing the safest and most reliable cars, it is vital that you take steps to protect your investment and especially if it is a classic. many motorists are unaware, but if you were to get into an accident and the car was written off then your insurer will only pay the current market value. the same occurs of the car is stolen and this could leave you seriously out of pocket.
it is for this reason that it is worth obtaining mercedes gap insurance - this will cover the shortfall so that you do not suffer a nasty financial hit. although safe and reliable, accidents occur all to often and mercedes are frequently targeted by criminals due to their desirability and value.
the mercedes classics are incredibly well received in the uk as they are such desirable and well built automobiles. the brand has developed many beautiful, iconic and influential vehicles over the years and these classics can be brilliant investments. ends
