SSC Ultimate Aero is a unique supercar. Having taken the crown of the fastest car in the world from Bugatti Veyron in September of 2007, the American thunder kept the title until 2010. Anyway, this marque and this model is already well written in to the books and takes a proper place in the gallery of honor among other notable examples.
SSC North America (previously known as Shelby Super Cars after its founder Jerod Shelby) has always kept low profile, thus only a handful of both Ultimate Aero and twin-turbocharged Ultimate Aero TT has been built.
Naturally, after the announcement and official preview of the Tuatara – a replacement model for its predecessor, the Ultimate Aero is going to a well-deserved retirement. However, the final five examples to be built will be sold as the exclusive Ultimate Aero XT series. In comparison with the previous models Ultimate Aero (6345cc, 1183 hp, 1482 Nm, 0-96 km/h in 2.78 s) and Ultimate Aero TT (6345 cc, 1287 hp, 1506 Nm, 2.78 s), the Ultimate Aero XT will be the most extreme version ever made. It will be powered by a mid-mounted 6942 cc twin-turbo V8, producing extraordinary 1300 hp of power and 1360 Nm of torque coupled with a 7-speed SMG paddle shift transmission with triple disc carbon clutch. These features will also be found in the upcoming Tuatara model.
On offer are also unique paint schemes which will be applied only once for each example and will not be used for any other car SSC will build. As usual the price tags are not disclosed, but this does not matter since the XT will not be everyone’s ride.
Truth is, the car that brought America back to the radar of best supercars will be discontinued with a bang and what is coming up next will be another eXTraordinary example of automotive engineering made in USA.
